NBA Team Trigger: Sacramento Kings

Today I begin a new series for the next few weeks, called the “NBA Team Trigger”, which will lead up to the NBA regular season. Normally, you can’t just pick up a gun and shoot it. You have to load it, you have to cock it, and then you have to fire. That’s the same with a pro basketball team. You have to load your “ammunition” in the offseason, hoping that when the regular season comes, it kills your opposition. *waits for Barack Obama to shut the site down for not being a #GunFreeZone*

SACRAMENTO KINGS

Last Season: 29-53 (projected wins at 30.5) and missed playoffs

Key Additions: Rajon Rondo, Marco Belinelli, Kosta Koufos, Willie Cauley-Stein (rookie)

Key Losses: Derrick Williams, Nik Stauskas

2015-16 Vegas: 31.5 projected wins and 300:1 odds to win NBA Championship

Many feel this Kings team is laughable, which it is. However, I might find myself watching this team more and more with the luxury of NBA League Pass. Grant it, not many in their right mind would put this team on ABC and TNT often. But we should care about this team because they are the Sacramento Wildcats, with Cousins, Rondo, and Cauley-Stein on the team!

There’s some intriguing storylines for the Kings. For example, will Rajon Rondo bounce back and begin playing at the elite level he’s capable of, or will he act like a child who doesn’t get their way in Wal-Mart, and pouts for the entire aisle/world to see. Can DeMarcus Cousins find a way to get along with Cauley-Stein and George Karl? … Will George Karl even last this entire season? WILL DeMARCUS COUSINS BE TRADED?!

All these questions surrounding the Kings, and it hasn’t been like this in a long time. Unfortunately, these aren’t the questions you want to be faced with. Many teams prefer in the offseason to be asked about “How are you going to replace (blank)” rather than “How long is that fork going to last in the microwave”.

Do I see this as a team who can make the playoffs? Absolutely not! But I’ll reiterate, I will be keeping a close eye on off-the-court issues with the Kings this season. Should they falter like many expect, it’d be interesting to see who exits Sacramento first, George Karl or DeMarcus Cousins. The one thing we know, is we’re sure of the Vice President to DeMarcus Cousins…. But the unknown is who would be the Vice President to George Karl?

Ring, ring! Mr. Calipari?

What do you think the Kings can do this season? Let me know in the comments below your expectations!
